Skin tags. What they are and what you can do about them

They are tiny, harmless, and often go unnoticed, until they don’t. Whether they catch on your clothing or simply make you feel self conscious, skin tags can be frustrating. They are incredibly common, especially during pregnancy or with certain health conditions, and they tend to show up in all the places where skin rubs or folds, underarms, neck, eyelids, around the breasts, or between the thighs.

But what actually causes them?

Skin tags form when clusters of collagen and blood vessels get trapped inside thicker parts of the skin. This can be triggered by hormones, friction, or even genetics. They are more likely to appear if you are insulin resistant, diabetic, or overweight, but anyone can get them. They are usually soft, round or teardrop shaped, and range from skin tone to pink or red. They are non cancerous and not dangerous, but that does not mean you have to live with them.

What not to do

We have all seen the internet tricks, cutting, tying, burning. Please don’t. These methods can cause infection or scarring and are not worth the risk.

What we recommend

At Professional Skin Care Lab, we use the Lamprobe. This is a gentle and precise device that uses high frequency radio waves to safely treat skin irregularities. It works right on the surface of the skin and leaves no lasting damage. No cutting, no chemicals, and no downtime. Most tags are gone in just one session. You might feel a quick sting or pinch, but it is over in seconds and no anaesthetic is needed.

More than just skin tags

The Lamprobe also treats milia, fibromas, clogged pores, acne bumps, and broken capillaries. It is a favourite for dealing with those tiny skin concerns that feel difficult to treat. Moles, however, need medical attention and that is where Dr Nadine Haberfeld comes in. She is based at our clinic and available for professional skin assessments when needed. If your skin is ready for a clean, polished look without the little extras tagging along, we would love to help. Reach out to our team at Professional Skin Care Lab to learn more about the Lamprobe and book your consultation.
